Violin Making & Acoustics
In addition to practical music making I am also interested in instrument constructions and the physics and acoustics of wooden instruments. I've made my own baroque violin and am currently working on a viola.
When I am not in the lab I am most likely found involved in some form of music making. I mainly play string instruments and have a particular affinity for performing Renaissance and Baroque music on period instruments. Although I have been fortunate enough to receive instructions and attend masterclasses from members of the Academy of Ancient Music, the English Baroque Soloists, Il Giardino Armonico, the Akademie für alte Musik Berlin, Barrocade, Fretwork and many others I am largely self-taught. I am thus especially grateful for all the opportunities I have had to participate in radio broadcasts and various international early music festivals. When I am not playing baroque violin, viola or viola da gamba, I enjoy returning to my modern violin for chamber/orchestral music and crossover projects.

I am on the committee of the Cambridge University Baroque Ensemble and I manage the Cambridge University Viol Consort. For more information please consult:
